Sound, Stillness and the Layers We're Made Of

23 August 2026

Vedic philosophy describes the self as made of layers, koshas, moving from the physical body outward (or inward, depending how you look at it) through breath, mind, deeper awareness, and finally something more like pure being. I find this a genuinely useful map, not because I can prove it scientifically, but because it matches something I've observed again and again in sessions: tension rarely lives in only one layer.

Why Tension Rarely Lives in Just One Place

A tight shoulder is physical, but it might also be holding a breath pattern, a thought loop, an old emotional weather system that never fully passed through. Working with sound doesn't require me to know exactly which layer is holding what. The intention is simply to offer something the whole system can respond to, at whatever level it's ready to.

Where I Draw the Line With "Quantum" Language

Some of the language I've used in the past, quantum, piezoelectric, leans on real physics concepts (piezoelectricity, the way certain materials generate a small electrical charge under mechanical stress, is a genuine and well-documented phenomenon in materials like collagen and bone). But I want to be careful here: how directly that translates into therapeutic effect in a sound session is still an open question, not something I can claim as proven. I use this language as a way of pointing at something felt, not as a settled scientific explanation.

What I Trust More Than the Theory

What I trust more is the simpler observation: when the body is given permission to be still, and sound is used with real attention rather than as background noise, something in a person often does shift, layer by layer, in whatever order their own system chooses. I can't predict what that will look like for you. I can only hold the space for it.

Curious what that's like in practice? Private sessions are the most direct way to find out, and if astrology is more your language, a natal chart report offers a different kind of layered reading, of the pattern you came in with rather than the body you're in now.
