What Your Body Knows Before Your Mind Catches Up

26 August 2026

When we have a sensitive nervous system, we don't normally listen to words.

We listen to tone. To intent. To what is underneath what is being said. And when the body registers even the slightest hint of pressure, control, or dominance, it can start defending before the mind has caught up with the facts of what's actually being spoken.

That doesn't mean we're overreacting. It just means our system has learned to read energy long before it had any language, and to protect us accordingly.

What Mercury Square Neptune Tends to Stir Up

This is part of why I find transits like Mercury square Neptune worth paying attention to. Mercury communicates through feeling, memory, and emotional association. Neptune can add confusion, projection, fantasy, or distortion into that field. So what we're hearing may not only be what's being said, but what our history, our fear, or our sensitivity is layering onto it.

Under this kind of aspect, there's often a tension between self-protection and emotional safety. One part of us wants to act, speak, or defend. Another wants to retreat, protect, and stay close to what feels familiar.

That can feel like confusion. But it's often something more revealing than that. It's the body showing us where an old pattern is still active.

The Facades We Build to Stay Comfortable

Whenever Neptune shows up strongly in a transit, we generally feel some sense of illusion. Not always through obvious deception, but through subtle facades. Through what we need to believe in order to stay comfortable. Through the version of ourselves we present because it feels safer than being fully honest. Through the stories we tell about other people, so we don't have to feel what remains unresolved in us.

Sometimes the untruth isn't that someone lied. Sometimes the untruth is that we already knew, and kept trying not to know.

Where Unresolved Truth Shows Up in the Body

That has a cost in the body. When the heart knows one thing and the mind keeps rehearsing another, the nervous system begins to split around it. The jaw tightens. The throat holds. Sleep becomes less restorative. The chest carries a quiet pressure. Digestion becomes inconsistent. The body starts bracing around what hasn't yet been admitted, because the body doesn't love facades. It loves congruence, alignment, what's true.

So perhaps the healing on offer in a week like this isn't immediate clarity, but honesty. The kind that lets us notice where we're still defending. Where we're still justifying what we feel. Where we're still trying to make something make sense before it's fully revealed itself.

Neptune doesn't always heal by making things clearer. Sometimes it heals by dissolving what was never stable to begin with, the image, the role, the certainty, the story. If that feels disorienting, it may simply mean something false is loosening.

The ear's part in all of this, reading tone and safety long before words, is something I unpack in the art of listening. If your nervous system runs sensitive, a private session works with what it's actually doing in the moment. If brain fog or a nervous system that won't settle is more the pattern, I also offer a Frequency Test, a concrete look at how your own system uses what it hears.
